Fertility
Looking for help to conceive naturally? There are lots of alternative and natural methods to help boost your fertility and conceiveFertility
Fertility has been a topical discussion over the last number of years as women and men are leaving it later in life to have children. Combining this with the increasingly pressurised working environment, demands on free time, lack of exercise and good nutrition is leading to a lot of couples facing difficulty in conceiving.
In order for the there to be a successful conception of a baby many parts of the body, hormones and fluids needs to be working smoothly in both women and men and when things are out of balance infertility can occur.
Women need to have balanced hormones including thyroid, progesterone and oestrogen which all need to be secreting at the right times. There needs to healthy fertile cervical mucus with the right PH balance and consistency.

“Whether you are in the planning phase or actively trying to conceive, if you’re looking for ways to increase your chances of conceiving, it may be worthwhile to explore some natural fertility treatments.” – Pauline (Founder)
Women’s eggs need to be healthy. The fallopian tubes needs to be free of blockages to allow the egg to be fertilised and travel to the uterus.
Uterus needs to have a healthy lining in order to facilitate implantation. While Men need to have healthy, motile and plentiful sperm to fertilise the ovum. Having all of the various systems in working to their optimum is a tall order in itself along with the right timing is the key to successful conception.
Some of the obstacles can be addressed very simply through lifestyle changes such as:
- Regular exercise, minimum of 30 minutes per day
- Introducing time for relaxation/downtime in to your routine
- Getting enough sleep
- Having a balanced diet
- Quitting smoking
- Ensuring your have a BMI within 20-25 range depending on your weight you may need to consider losing or gaining weight
- Reducing alcohol consumption
Making changes in the above all assist with supporting increased fertility in both men and women.
Acupuncture, Hypnotherapy and Reflexology can all be used to improve fertility either as a separate treatment or in conjunction with each other. The aim of complementary and holistic therapies is to bring the body into balance and provide optimum health increasing chances of conception. One of the key benefits of complementary therapies is the deep sense of relaxation they can induce in the body and mind thus reducing the impact of stress on the body.
However none of the therapies is a magic cure and if there is an underlying condition such as chlamydia, blocked fallopian tubes or fibroids the appropriate medical advice should be sought.
It is Important to Note that anyone who has been trying to conceive for over a year should consider consulting their GP to check if there is any underlying reason for why they haven’t conceived. Sometimes a simple blood test can reveal enough information for the condition to be rectified. In women over 35 the recommendation would be after 6 months to consult a GP.

What should I expect on the first appointment?
What should I do for my first Acupuncture appointment?
Bring a list of current medicine and any supplements e.g herbal, vitamins, etc. It is advisable to wear loose clothing that gives access to the arms and legs easily. Most of the points used during a treatment session are on the lower arms and legs, the abdomen, back and head.
Usually the Acupuncturist will do an assessment of the tongue and pulse. It is helpful to avoid foods that colour the tongue, brushing the tongue surface and tea/coffee on the day of the appointment to ensure the coating on the tongue is in natural state. Alcohol, caffeine based drinks and heavy meals in the 2-3 hours prior to the appointment as they can interfere with the pulse.

Pauline, the owner, is very knowledgeable on alternative healing and takes a personal interest in their client’s well being.
My health has improved dramatically since starting acupuncture. It helps me relax and I can feel the benefits that the needles are achieving – which don’t bother me, due to Pauline’s approach. Even after the session, she is always doing research and finding ways to improve each subsequent treatment, which is a testament to her professionalism.
