Do you at a certain time of the month find your temper uncharacteristically flaring? Becoming upset at the slight thing ? Are you having intense mood swings and generally feeling out of control? There is a good chance you are not going mad but experiencing the joys of a severe form premenstrual syndrome. Some women are lucky enough to sail through their menstrual cycles without experiencing any fluctuations in mood or encountering any physical changes.

Anxiety

Everyone can experience anxiety at different times in their lives. Normal day to day anxiety such as sitting exams, going on a first date, having to speak in public or walking down a dark lane at night can evoke feelings of nervousness, uneasiness or worry. This type of anxiety is considered helpful as it makes you more alert to the circumstances. When the anxiety becomes more persistent and begins to take over a person’s live then it can become a problem.

Sciatica

Sciatica is literally a pain in the bum. People suffering from sciatica know how debilitating the pain can be as it travels from the lower spine down one or both legs often reaching the ankle. People report pain when sitting, standing and doing simple tasks can aggravate the pain. Often when I meet clients suffering from sciatica they are in such severe pain they can’t sit for more than a few minutes and need to be moving to keep the pain at bay. Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterised by severe muscular pain, tiredness, stiffness and achy sensations, often sufferers can initially feel it is all in their heads because of the lack of concrete diagnosis. Fibromyalgia is thought to affect 1-2% of the population, predominantly occurs in women and is a syndrome which affects the suffers pain receptors. Research is indicating that a decrease in energy production may be causing the pain as opposed to inflammation.

Painful Periods (Dysmenorrhea)

Period pain is a common complaint among women and often can cause a lot of discomfort for a couple of days a month. Contrary to popular belief not all pain is part of the menstrual process. Some pain during you period can be considered normal but if the pain is interfering with your day to day activities, being a nuisance and stopping you from working or going to school, it might be time to make some changes and consider complimentary therapies as alternative to pain relief.

P.C.O.S

P.C.O.S is a metabolic disorder that can affect a woman’s hormonal levels which can affect their ability to conceive. It is believed to affect up to 10% of women and is the major cause of irregular cycles in women. P.C.O.S can often begin with the onset of menarche and remains undiagnosed until a woman tries to conceive. The main cause is believed to be hormonal imbalances including the excess production of the male hormone androgen.

Hay Fever (Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis)

With a change of season around the corner, we are coming into the summer while some of us are looking forward to the sunshine and holidays for people who suffer from hay fever it can be a dreaded time of the year. Hay fever is an allergic response to different allergens including pollen, cigarette smoke, chemicals, dust, food and chlorine. The allergens start an immune response in the body leading to too produce antibodies.

We all know good night sleep is essential to good health. It is recommended that we get between 7-8 hours’ sleep a night to enable our bodies to rest properly, store memories, restore energy and allow our bodies to heal. Even having a few days of sleep deprivation can affect your overall health leading to increased weight gain, the risk of diabetes, depression, affect your ability to concentrate and process information and cause heart problems.

A goal without a plan is just a wish. Taking time to sit down and plan out your goals is key to getting what you want in life. It is very easy to set goals but achieving them is another thing. Keeping motivated and developing new habits, understanding why you have and haven’t achieved some of your goals is an important starting point in goal setting. Spending a few minutes a day focusing on what you want out of life can make such a difference to your happiness.
